Dr. LaKela Atkinson, a native of Goldsboro, is the owner and CEO of For the Love of Words. While working as a graduate writing consultant at North Carolina Central University's Writing Studio (under her director, Dr. Karen Keaton Jackson), she received a high demand for editing services. Out of her love for writing and editing, she started her business in 2008.

Atkinson has worked in higher education for over 15 years as a writing consultant and instructor.  She holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication from East Carolina University, an M.A. in English from North Carolina Central University, and a B.A. in English from North Carolina Central University. Her research interests include racial minority learners, mentoring, and writing centers.
